biikiow!

well, i like everything these days it seems, yessir, i liked it.

how the first one should have been imo. i really enjoyed the unforgiving deaths that good rated R movies had in the 80's, movie makers with balls. the plot choices kept me guessing and paranoid. i've always hated how movies let the characters in a story get away with so much bullshit because killing them isn't productive, or whatever... it's like playing d&d with a dungeon master who won't kill you for doing stupid shit *pushes up glasses w/ snort* ygnuhn! it takes the serious out of the game, out of the monster, it removes that sense of danger and tension.

it needed random nudity to meet my bill for a good 80's style rated R action movie, but i have the sense to see past it, and a panty shot worked for me in aliens, why shouldn't it work for me here. it's more mature this way. it fits with having less to no big-name tallent involved with the project, really takes the gaterade out of it, and that's a personal term, and a good thing - i have the internet afterall, porn is at my fingertips so, it doesn't seem so much as a loss than a testiment of how awesome-useful the internet is.

i don't typically enjoy watching movies more than once, but this? i could definately watch this one a second go, mmm-your thoughts?

I'm a sucker for monster movies and special effects. So I'm going to be seeing this movie later today. I saw the first one. And I have no illusions. As far as basic movie mechanics were concerned, it was utter crap. The characters were universally half-baked and unlikeable. The premise bordered on silly, and the film took way too much time explaining it. Even the interactions between the Aliens and Predators was a little dissapointing. I mean really, two of the three predators died in the very first encounter. And the third one was marked for death almost immediately. (obvious face-hugger implication) There were gaping plot holes and discrepencies.

As such, I'm going into the second movie with extremely low expectations.

Oh yeah!!! I'm with Killingpeople on this one, wooo whie what a freaking ride this freaking movie was, it's everything avp should of been. Hell no need for AVP 1 this held it's own without that shit ever existing, and I liked AVP1 because of the FX. After I saw the bs of transformers I was pissed cause I wanted my freaking battle and mayhem and yes this has it. No pussy as rated pg bs director to ruin this one. Bad note only five percent of the movie I didn't like was the fact that there was no crappy plot... No plot at all just crazy shit going on. Yes, I wish this guy had directed resident evil and transformers. I was expected crap with this and got lots of cool action and violence and predalien kicking ass. The FX and environments are great, everything that should of died in all th other aliens and predators movies died in this one. wink.gif The lower expectations the better, cause you'll enjoy it even more!!!!. wink.gif

Spoiler those shitty trailers were very misleading!

yeah man, there was no plot because everytime story elements started coming together, an alien, preditor, or combination of the two would fuck it in the mouth - crushing, exploding, and tearing those stories to bits, which to me was fantastic to watch, it was fun watching the aliens and preditors bust through the story elements like that.

    SPOILER

balls. the directors had them in spades. i wanted unforgiving action, i got it. little kid hunting with his dad? no fucking mercy! hot chick? dead before a relationship can develop, and killed in such a who-gives-a-fuck way! unexpected. newborns? alien don't give a shit, them are tasty! i see pregnant lady, aliens sees useful hive for her babies. no room; no mercy, there are aliens with sharp teeth that love the taste of your skin in the mix here, sorry bitch! aliens and preditors don't give a shit about your stupid television series level concerns, there are faces to be eaten, planets to save, ship wreckage to coverup and alien technology to reclaim and protect. THAT's more important than seeing if girl next door is the one. there is no room for hero save the day. there is only room for acidic blood and nuke explosions. there is room for ass hole boyfriend dying in exotic way; caught between and alien and a preditor... briliant. love it. it's like romance was hot tub, and action was a fat guy. good stuff

They should have officially named this movie: Alien vs. Predator: Apology for the first Alien vs. Predator.

killingpeople hit on all the high points. I had a good time. The Predator kicked some serious ass. Triangle targeting technology = win.

Well, I'm going to be grabbing a matinee showing this afternoon with a friend of mine who also likes monster movies. We saw the first film together, so this is kind of a tradition. And if your descriptions are anything to go by, I'm actually encouraged. My expectations are very low. (especially after the first film) All I really want from this film is non-stop balls-to-the-wall action. An unremitting roller-coaster of extraterrestrial violence. I want to see Predators and Aliens slashing each other up with abandon, and cannon-fodder humanity as little more than chunky salsa confetti.

They don't call the movie Aliens vs. Predator vs. Humans. It's Aliens vs Predator. Humans should be little more than appetizers in a slugfest such as this.

you guys are on crack... it was a fucking teen drama ffs! seriously the only difference between this movie and the other trailers they showed right before the movie (step up2, never back down) was that this one had monsters from 80s horror/action flicks. this was WAY worse that the first AvP, to me it seemed like some cheap straight to dvd slasher flick. and the predator is supposed to be some badass? i was expecting some crazy cool ninja shit. not to mention they pretty much showed all of the cool shit in the damn trailer, i felt like i pretty much saw the entire movie when it started and all i saw was the filler inbetween the cool parts.

i wish they'd just let that franchise die, but people just can't get enough of them aliens and predators.. so i wouldn't be surprized if they made a third one... and that would be the one to burry it even deeper in the SUCK

I haven't seen either AVP1 or 2, but regarding the Alien Movies, for me they stopped being good after Alien3.
Alien Resurrection just had too much of this "Joss Whedon Vibe" to it, i always expected Buffy to jump out and start shooting Aliens - not sure why.

James Cameron said making an AvP movie was "The easiest way to kill off both franchises".. I thought the first AvP had done that pretty well. I'll reserve judgement on the sequel until I've seen it myself..

Props to Rebb for liking Fincher's alien 3.. I thought I was the only one *sniff*.

I'm sorry but that must have been the worst movie I've seen in a while... I was sadly enough looking forward to seeing this because of the cool trailer.

aside from the parts from the trailer, which even those weren't executed well when put in the movie, it was a random cry fest with characters with over and under acted emotions.

if you do plan on seeing it, look forward to squinting 80% of the movie trying to see in the dark and rainy scenery... fuck if I know what was even going on through most of those parts.

I actually enjoyed the movie more than the first one. Primarily because I felt the first movie focused way too heavily on the human characters, and way too little on the Aliens and Predators. As to the nay-sayers who complain about the darkness and rain, atmoshpere and obscured vision have been used effectively in previous films in these series. I actually found those sequences to be rather gripping.

Of course, that brings me to my most obvious complaint about this movie. It was derivative. Almost painfully so. And it didn't just rip off previous Alien and Predator movies. It ripped off everything. I even saw one part that reminded me of The Poseidon Adventure. Of course, it was sans Gene Hackman, so it obviously fell far short of the drama and pathos that he was able to produce.

Aside from that complaint, I was fairly pleased. The predator was much more aggressive and leaner than the lumbering doomed idiots from the first film. I liked the fact that he was acting as a kind of exterminator, cleaning up the mess left by his less effective comrades. The humans were pure 100% ground beef. The acting was quite obviously sub-standard, but effective enough for the condiderably smaller amount of screen time that they got. From the beginning, it was obvious that the movie was going to treat every human character as a disposable commodity. They were there to be eaten and hunted, and they fulfilled that role well enough.

I was more than a little confused about the decisions surrounding the aliens, though. The Predalien is an obviously neat concept, but it suffered terribly from lumbering oaf syndrome. And the way it "reproduced"? Bizarre, and it reminded me of the crappy ending of Alien Resurrection. Also, I believe that these Aliens had ridged skulls, while the aliens in the first AvP had smooth skulls. I don't know if that was supposed to be a nod to the first two films in the Alien series, but I thought it a rather unfortunate and obvious oversight.

I think that's a little harsh dejawolf. The film wasn't quite that terrible. Now, don't get me wrong. It could not by any stretch of the imagination be referred to as a "good" film. It was lowest-common-denominator shlock. But it was entertaining. Here's the IGN review of it, I found it to be pretty comprehensive. (though they actually gave it a higher score than I would have)

If you like Aliens or Predators, then go ahead and see this film, it has plenty of both. If you are not a fan of these critters, than stay away. They are the reason to see this, and you won't find anything else appealing.

Oh my god, this was the worst shit i have seen in a long time! and i totally love predator and alien seperate. they could have just splashed that one chicks ass on the screen, then said "thanks for comin" and i woulda been happeier then sitting through that whole thing. still confuses me why the predator race is so advanced yet there occular technology blows.

do yourself a favor and dont see this untill its on hbo

You don't have to change your opinion because others disagree, nor does it make yours incorrect. If you look at the worst movie thread, there's a lot of conflicting opinions. Each to their own, and so on. Just depends on your taste, what your expecting and what you feel like watching at the time.

I'll probably catch this on DVD, I'm a real tight-ass.

My opinion holds and yes after awhile I was like wtf I love the all the violence but after awhile it did kind of bug me. Still I enjoyed everything that got killed, I won't go with spoilers yet but it was fun. I did feel the Predator was misused in this film just like in the first AVP, but seeing the aliens have a feast was a treat. And when the Predator killed a certain character towards the end I had to contain myself from screaming in the theater out of joy. It was great. I could almost go pay to see this again just for that. I'll get on dvd and play that bit over and over. wink.gif As far as how dark the movie was, well all the other alien movies are like that so I can't see why the complaint. I think part of the problem this film suffers is that we all know what these creatures look like and getting scared by them is rather difficult so I imagine everyone now just wants to see them in full not just bits of them in the dark. I did like that the director tried to go to the alien and predator roots, not saying it worked but it was nice. I thought it was way better than I am legend. wink.gif

Just saw it, so many flavours of shit...ooo.gif

The human characters' generic or non existent personalities were a big sore point for me. In the moments when they weren't getting vivisected, you could swear you were watching a soap opera. Not one of those pretentious, classy ones either. Rather, one of those really cheesy ones that doesn't even take itself seriously.

If you enjoyed it, I'm happy for you, to each his own and all that. But I left the cinema feeling like I was still waiting for the movie to really begin. mad.gif

I liked it. While it was just as cheesy as the previous AVP, it is wat it is.. I did like it better than the first one, where the predator helps the girl and stuff(wtf?)..lol. I liked how it took place in a forest(wilderness area), much like the first Predator(which is THE best one ever)in the jungle.. I just wish it lasted more in that scenery.. Also woulda been cool to see Arnold make an appearance even as a side character(Specially when they brought in the soldiers). Wanted to hear him say "GET TO THA CHOPPA!!" once again. But all in all I give this an 8 out of 10.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, no, actually. Remember that the mid-80's were actually the time when the best movies in both franchises were released. (Aliens in 1986, and Predator in 1987) The mid-80s were the heyday of big-scale action movie blockbusters. And if AvP2 had been held up to those standards, it would have seemed even more pathetic. Part of the reason why I'm so willing to go easy on it at the moment is because there are much fewer movies of this ilk coming out recently. And those that do are usually absolutely awful. AvP2 is a decent popcorn flick compared to current action movies. If it were compared to the action epics of yesteryear, it would be even more harshly criticized.

If I compare AvP2 to either Predator or Aliens, it is laughable. It is only by avoiding those dirrect comparisons that I am able to enjoy the film.
