A hand

Havent been modelling for quite some time, and the idear of starting a major project was daunting. So instead I launched a small one with an old enemy, the hand.

Donno if its worth posting, or if it can hold any interrest at all. Non the less xD... I did.

Wanted a tech'ish glove, used for combat (maby a sniper). "Low poly" ofc, tho the texture ress is ~512 (dont really care =D).

Since im mosly doing this for the exercise, I'll prolly rig it and post a vid later... or something xD.

Nice texture work, but black is probably not the best background color to show off dark model like this. Can you repost a better grab? also if you could show it deformed it would help, since those single loops at the top look like they will collapse quite a bit. I'd actually suggest making the fingers less triangles around, and more dense at the joints.

Nice painterly texture though, I dig.

Nice hand, but are the fingers going to bend upwards or why do you have subdivision on the lower side but not on the upper side of the fingers?

I've really been struggling with this one, as I suck at anatomy, rigging and basically anything that dont stand still or can be PS'd away

. Keeping polycount low only added to that.

I cut the finger joints on the "lowers side" as I thought they might collapse better when bend.. I should cut it all the way through instead ^^. I agree poop, more detail to the joins.

knuckles like this work for me, but they might be a bit higher poly than you want to go, so try different arrangements.

Thanks for the sample skanker. Wasn't aiming for super low poly style, but I need practice in the area. Will try an animated my further projects from now on, as it gives better insight on my screwups. Cheers.

Fantastic hand poop, looking at my own mesh now makes me cry.
For some reason I can look a billion times on a shape and still dont get the geometry

Do ya'll start with a box and take it from there? Use ref in ortho or just photos on the sideline?

On a side note, thanks for the video tutorials on you site poop

Poop made that hand while working at Neversoft (as a base hand for all characters to use)...I STILL use it, two years later.

One day I'll make my own, but it's a hard act to follow.

Thank you poop I am now going to steal that hand and use it as best I can copy, though its generally a bit higher-poly than I go for hands.

He made a lower poly version for us too.

It pretty much looks just as good in most situations.
