New Bioshock Trailer - Hunting the Big Daddy

The Bioshock fanfare site, Cult of Rapture released some concept art and final renders for the Big Daddy characters. This game's release will result in simultaneous love explosions through the pants of America.

Pretty cool, some of the concept are really nice, but the final model/texture doesn't look so hot...

...which is strange, since it looks good in the videos. Was I imagining a normal & spec map on it?

Funny i was thinking how good the low poly looked concidering it was a just an old fashioned low poly and diffuse. I guess it is so easy to forget the days when we were working with no normal maps and a real texture and polycount limit.

Irrational Games' art team has never been perfect, but I think Bioshock has really pushed the bar for themselves, and shines particularly well when its inside the engine. (Their gaffers/lighters are very very good.) But yeah, I do agree that the texture on the big daddy could use some zazz. Specifically on the legs & arms of the Big(ger) Daddy, and the smaller daddy has a few messy areas.

They've come a long way since Shock 2 though. The game is gonna be fun.

they do have normal+spec maps, looks like someone just made a shitty render... or forgot to apply them :S

Yeah, I guess they just forgot to apply the normal/spec maps, since they seem to be present in-game...

Still, that diffuse texture could look a lot better IMHO. Ah well, I guess it's the end result that counts, so if it looks great in motion when lit by the engine, that's fine

Surpised me too. I thought he looked great in game, but those renders just seemed unfinished to me. Looking forward to meeting these guys in-game

Bioshock - Hunting the Big Daddy

Irrational Released a new gameplay trailer today, looks boss. I thought the flaming teddy bear was a nice touch. Animation is looking particularly nice as well.

The animation on the little girl is just incredible. The game doesn't look quite as impressive in screenshots but in motion, it's fantastic. I cannot wait.

Aye, I was already very impressed with the way she was interacting with the environment at the end. It was subtle and looked quite natural (such as when she moved back into the desk and pushed it a bit).
