is there a way to turn this off in 3ds max?

when you're trying to zoom in there is a limit/point and then you start to zoom in slower and slower and then you can't zoom in any further. this wouldn't bother me if it worked right but the points that is chooses for the limit are annoying.
i am using 3ds max 7.

if this is something obvious then dont laugh, lol, 3ds max has soo many options its near impossible to know them all unless you've been using it for years.

I think its because you're zooming on a point in space, and as you get closer and closer to the point the zoom slows down. if you select the object or vert etc you want to zoom on and hit z, it will center your camera on it and you should be able to zoom right in no problem

ok, one more thing, it seems i have accidentlly changed the size of my gizmo's (move, scale...etc), how can i change them back?

+ and - are the default keyboard shortcuts to increase or decrease the transform gizmo size.

lol that is what i thought but i tried the ones on the right of the keyboard and they didn't work.... but apparently its only the + and - below the function keys that do it.

I hate that!! and then having to press z and re-zooming in. Because of that i always change my view from perspective to user. I personally like it a lot better in most situation.

I'm one of those crazy guys that uses walk thru mode most of the time. the [] keys control the speed of the camera. I have it bound to Shift-C to activate it, right click exits and w,a,s,d moves the camera around and mouse looks around. Just like fly-by mode in any FPS.

Great for getting all over the place, especially if you are doing levels, but I use it for characters too.

Also if something is really bugging you, switch to user view for that section...the zoom works fine there.

A point I didn't bring up is that walk thru mode only works in Perspective or in a view set to a camera.

Also I don't use the middle mouse to zoom in and out I use the actual tool. I tend to get some weird field of depth clipping issues if I use the mouse to zoom in then use walk thru to pull back out, and then mouse wheel to zoom back in. I hear they fixed that in 9 but I have yet to load up 9 and check to see.

oh yeah, that thing pissing off=)
but on first place of "nasty things" is
3dsmax knife tool. working weird. sometimes good, sometimes awful.

Are you guys saying this is actually a feature? I'm having trouble believing that, all the more so because there's no sign of it in user-view. perspective view 4tw for actually viewing models! User gets nauseating

Has anyone checked in Max 9 to see if it still does this? They are aware of this issue, and may have fixed/gave an option to change it in ver9.

are you guys talking about vigs problem or the zoom slowing down? its the way the 3d camera works, it has a pivot point which is where you rotate about-so if the pivot point is in the middle of nowhere you zoom in and it appears to stop.. you're getting infinitely close to the pivot point in space. works the same in mudbox and I would imagine maya too, although Ive not got it here to test. silo seems to fix the pivot point to the object you're working on, which I find slightly annoying

you can either rotate your camera to the top view, dolly the cam so the object is in the center of the screen, and do the same for side and front, then you're centered on the object. -or use the shortcut

when working i accidentally hit "u" while in perspective then hit "p" to go back... now my perspective view is pretty much the same as user and its driving me nuts. any fix for this?
