I hope they don't start forcing this tech on development teams unless they want it. Sorry if this has been posted already.

Kind of odd, I guess the sensationalism finally got to EA. I mean.. EA owns Renderware.. probably Unreals largest competitor.

Really tho, the unreal engine titles on the 360 are about the only ones that look next gen.. not always.. but quite often anyways.

Is renderware good or bad? Hard to tell from your guys' responses, and I don't know much of anything about it.

From my limited knowlege it seems like a good idea. I mean, it's a lot cheaper to liscence a high quality engine like that than to build your own, no?

No, it is not good. It's a bag of shite, with 10% extra free. Its polygon pushing performance is abysmal, and the tools are hopeless.

Yes, for certain games, EA buying U3 is a good thing. If they'd actually listened to their senior talent, they could have bypassed the collosal waste of time and money that was Renderware.

Renderware is kind of like Lithtech.. Monolith is the only company that can use Lithtech.. and.. Criterion is the only one who can use Renderware... heh

I think it makes sense for any studio with money to license the best possible engine, and EA certainly has the money...

I've worked with both Renderware and Gamebryo.
Gamebryo is far better than Renderware, but it's still a limiting engine.

I worked with renderware in dare to be digital 2k5. All I can say is, its better than what I'm using now

With the amount of people working at the company I'm shocked that they can't just use a unified engine and toolset. I've never worked for any EA studios, so maybe they do have that.

The thing about using UE3 is that in a few years every artist, design, coder, even producer will benefit from having that engine experience on their resume. As well as seem like a more attractive company to anyone that has used UE3 in the past.

My hope that comes of this is the Unreal Tournament announcer doing color commentary for Madden next year.

I suppose with the vide range of games they develop theres no point in using the same engine.. However maybe they should streamline their business a bit so for example all of the workers at the sweat-shop (redwood shore

) uses similar engines and tools? Its easy to see the limitations tho. Does Sims and NHL 2007 need the same engine? or even a unified one?

Second, since EA been on a shopping-spree lately aquring studiois like mad to get their IIP's, and in the future, develop new original IP's for EA it wouldnt make sense to force on them a EA editor (or UE3 for that matter. Altough i doubt any developer would turn it down)
