I'm totally new here *waves* and thought I'll try to do something for the contest. I don't have my concept sketches on the computer, but this is what I've done.

Should I do something more on it, it is a bit booring. and is there anything I can do better please tell me (I'm rather new to 3d modelling).

looks like you need some smoothing groups...not sure in maya, but in max, its under the polygon sub element of your object...scroll down to polygon properties, and set all the polys you want to smooth into eachother to their appropriate number...

this is a good tut, by poop...it will explain it much better than i can right now.

Tough to tell from the pose and all, but you may have some extra edge loops here and there, especially in the roundness of the arms (could always be less sides). Also, you could use some alpha planes for hair. Maybe even some accessories (vest, chain necklace, sunglasses, etc)? Overall, pretty fun looking if not a bit on the generic side.

Ok so I've redone some things:

And I was also thinking about alpha mapping the strings on the guitar, I still can't really figure out how you people make these "thin" polygons. Here is my problem:

I'm not sure this is the "right" way to do this though

(I just extruded the edge)

Select the "unweldable" vertexes, then push "WELD", not "TARGET WELD". the thing is that somewhere there are 2 or more vertexes overlapping. when you extrude edges max does that sometimes. they cannot be darget-welded then. so you have to WELD, then TARGET WELD.

Or 'collapse', if you want to make things easier.

if you are in edit poly, that is an illegal weld, you can't have a flat plane coming out of solid geometry, you will need to detach the plane, and just have it snapped to the verts there

k, im liking this way better...put an awesome huge patch of his band on the back...like Lion's Lunch, or something...
Also give him some Eyelids in your texture...you could make his eyes have some other expression than"OH GOD MY EYEBALLS ARE GOING TO EXPLODE" hehe...

Ok, I think I'm pretty much finnished with this now had some time over so I did a simple stage (Yeah I know the wooden stage and the speakers doesnt fit, but hey theres a zebra with a electric guitar)

dang dude, this turned out soooo much better than the original post. I like it a lot..If i had any crits it would be...with the extra polys u could maybe add some planes around the hoves or something and break his silhoutte with some fur...but other than that..Great job
