What I meant was don't rehash something old with 3D graphics when it already works fine in 2D. If you are going to do something in 3D make sure that there is some advantage to it being 3D.
It's not against the 'rules' to have a followup title with a very consistent look with its previous titles.
How do you know if it's a straight out rehash though? Kinda hard to judge that from a preview.

From looking at the movies and screenshots it does look like a bit of a rehashing to me with some flashy new effects and monsters. Not that that's a bad thing but does it really need to be 3D? I think the overall visual style suffers because of this. Some guys like the 3D look. I don't.
If the game is fresh and creative and uses 3D in some innovative way then I will eat my words.
Too bad I just traded my psp in. HAHAAHAHAAA!
Oh well, I can just as easily play it's NES and SNES counterparts on my DS. ohnoes!
