I saw this stuff on The Discovery Channel a few years ago. If I remember correctly, one of the practical applications for this stuff was to use it in suspension systems for military vehicles (Humvees, sand rails, etc.). They use it in hydraulic shock-absorbers and control the viscosity of the liquid with an electric current. They can adjust the viscosity almost instantly, thereby adjusting the damping/stiffness/whatever, which is all determined by a computer system which anticipates suspension requirements. Pretty serious stuff

that actually sounds way less practical than using it for art.. i mean come on. the US wastes money on the stupidest shit. super dancing shocks.. almost as bad as the 1 million dollar pen nasa developed to write in space... guess what russia used??

Ever heard of the Baja 1000? You should ask those guys how practical they think high-tech shocks are in extreme, high-speed, off-road conditions. A 300hp diesel engine, bulletproof armor, and Browning .30 cal aren't going to do you much good if you break an axel. The suspension is probably one of the most important components of a vehicle (besides the wheels themselves), so I'd say it's a very practical application that will probably eventually become standard in civilian vehicles.

Whether or not something is practical, and whether or not you care about it, are two very different things, aren't they? I don't care much about thermodynamics, but that doesn't mean I'm going to claim thermodynamics is a science with no practical applications.

All I did was post a small bit of information on another use for the material, and you seem to be pissed off by that. I don't know what your problem is.

relax homie. nobody is pissed, its dumb internet.. just voicing my opion that i think it sounds like a big waste of time and not practical. something being practiacal is intended to serve a purpose without elaboration. seems very elaborate and therefor not very practical. so i think of it as not practical. didnt mean to wad up your panties with an opinion. i forgot there is no room for those around here.
so i retract any ideas that might differ from anyone elses , super hummers with super shocks are super awesome!! i cant wait to get them in my escalade!!!!

(side point)I thought both the US and the Russians used pencils in space initially, but found problems when the lead broke in zero gravityand the risk of combustion in an oxygen rich environment. That and Fisher's space pen was developed privately outside of NASA and public money. (/side point)

And I'm sorry you don't agree that being able to use a few watts of electrical power to control hundreds of watts of mechanical power in shock-absorbing systems (the type that can be used in automobiles, to make buildings less susceptible to earthquakes, and so on) to be, "not very practical."
