Polycounter that counts real vertice counts

Hi I was wondering if there was a polycounter for max or stand alone tool that counted all the vertices added to a model after unwraping it, adding separate materials and smoothing groups. I thought someone from the boards was working on this already. Can you let me know if there is such a thing other than Maya's cool toolset since I don't have access to it.

Does it properly simulate tristripping? The way your tristrips are running can change a whole lot. If you have a split edge that the trisrip runs into you could turn the edge into a beveled edge without increasing the vert count, if the strips run along it the splitting won't create extra vertices.

which is kinda hard to emulate, since tri stripping totally depends on what tool you use for.
there is no "generic tri strip algorithm" there is quite some libs out there which do different and you can have quite some tweakables

so its somewhat unreal that you will see it in a script

Yes but it has a major influence on the vert count. Just goes to show that it's nearly impossible to say how many verts will be rendered.

I'll take a look at that script and see if I can speed it up. It was written pretty fast just to make it work, so there are probably more elegant ways to compute the numbers, as opposed to the brute force method it's using now.

And if anyone ever wants to modify it to take tri-stripping into account, feel free. You'd probably want to check with a programmer working on whatever engine you're using to see what kind of algorithm to implement.

Actually you can get the UV count (which is the same as what your looking for I think) by looking in the channel info tools. Its listed under the uvw map channel 1.
