Is Texas (I-10) really that bad?

So next week I'm driving from Florida to California to start the new job the following week. Everyone says that I-10 through west Texas is really boring and nothing to look at. Is it really that bad?

yes it is that bad. So, to keep yourself entertained, you can always drive about 150 mph.

Just go down I35 to New Braunfels, kick some ass on the river, then hop back on the road

But I'd definitely recommend hours of good music haha.

Books on Tape (or DVD.) Music isn't sufficient for multi hour drives. Also adding an hour or two to drive along the Rio Grande on interesting twisty roads may be a blessing to the flat utter boredom of the Southwest Highways. I haven't driven I-10 in Texas, but I have driven I-5 in California enough.

Yeah, you know those movies like 'Red Rock' and 'U-Turn' and other road movies where bad stuff happens on big empty stretches of desert road? That's it.

Just watch out for the flocks of birds, including buzzards, that like to sit in the middle of the blacktop in the middle of the day. Good luck.

Everyone has been saying U-Turn and those road movies. I've got some movies and music ready for the PSP on the drive I think. I'll just listen to some movies or figure out how to get some books on mp3.

Well, once you're about an hour or so north of Orlando, FL it starts getting all barren and movie-like, Jeepers Creepers was filmed around here and most people think they filmed it in the midwest.

I did the exact same drive (Orlando to LA) at this same time last year, and Texas was the worst part of the trip

Not only was it incredibly boring having to spend almost an entire day driving through texas, but it's real easy to go a little too fast because there is absolutely nothing around. Soooo, Texas is where I got my only speeding ticket on the trip =(

My recommendation, bring a friend. I convinced my brother to make the drive with me and it made for an exciting and eventful trip across the US, instead of a mind numbing 70 hour drive.

Bah dont do it on one push,you you steer off a little from 1-10 you can go to Shiner Texas and go to the Shiner Bock Beer factory, tour is great,fresh free beer.

I thought New Mexico was just as bad as Texas. I got DaVinci Code on the ipod and listened to that the whole way. Made it from Houston to Tucson in a day with a huge accident in San Antonio.
