I started this thread at cgchat and wanted to share this work in progress with you all.

E3 got me off my ass and into some Normal map action!
I decided to re-concept a Pig Cop from Duke Nukem, and hopefully model him up.

Very sweet! Two things though

#1-From the side view, the ears need to be rotated forwards more, you shouldnt be able to see as much of the inner ear as you see from your renders

#2-I realize what you did, but your lips dont make any sense. It honestly looks like there is a THIRD lip below the bottom one. What happened with this area? Is there something i just dont see, or did you accidentally make it twice?

Despite these two small things, looks f'ing great

Awesome stuff TAS. Totally love the concept painting (as usual!).

I think DarthRevanII is right about the chin looking like an extra lower lip - I think you should push it back and make it less prominent, like the concept is. Pigs' lower lips are usually very prominent, and kinda flop over the chin to hide a lot of it, doing something like that might help here.

I'd also recommend moving the eyebrow polys around a bit, he's looking a bit friendly and dopey, while he looks feral and angry in the concept - a more steeply angled eyebrow-ish part would improve that, I think.

Great stuff so far, keep it up dude!

I wish I could see you do a more refreshing take on the concept. It was cool back in the day, but today I think I find it pretty boring.. maybe you are just saving your demons for other stuff

Awsome feedback!, I'll definitly revisit the chin and Brow. Ive been going back and forth alot so nothing is set n stone. Mop / Revan, good eye, I get to close to this stuff sometimes.

Shotgun:I didnt want to stray to far from the original, My main purpose was to bring it up to date with subtle changes the concept is more of an update, not a redesign. Its easy to make hime evil and scaly looking, I'm trying to capture the campy design is what made Duke so Fun, I really hope the pigcop in DNF stays more true to the original.

Pogonip: thanks , I model by extruding edges.. maintains a more sucessful edgeloop.

some more... made subtle changes to the head... I want to keep his expression more neutral for now, I found a midpoint between "dopey" and "ferral". also brought the chin in a bit and hung the lip out a bit more. started on the arm as well.

sweet concept.. the model is still early.. and i know you will probably pull it together.. but at the moment he dosent seem to have the "ima gonna kill you suka"look on his face.. he kinda looks like a puppy that wants to play.. i am not very afraid of this guy... but the concept it pretty cool..i almost want him to be fatter.. a big lard ass.. but thats always how i pictured them.. your take is still pretty cool.. "who wants some?"

Looking really cool Tasso. One question, is this gonna be a high poly model (turbosmoothed)? or is it just a really dense in game model? Just curious. If it's for turbosmoothing eventually, you might want to be modeling with that turned on, as it will seriously change the definition and volume of the details when you do. Better to make it work with it while modeling, than have to give it an entire once over when you apply it.

Anywho, looking pimp, love the concept!

Arsh: long time no speak... ya I'll definitly be doing alot of tweaking as the model starts to come together, proportions being among those.. I still have a whole zbrush process to go through for detailing.

Poop!: This is a model ment to be smoothed, Ive be turning it on and off to check progess, but i dont see why i cant keep it on... good advice, thanks man!

heh, the new dukenukem openGL port has support for models, though not this hi poly. Pretty interesting concept, but I always liked the enforcer lizard chaingun guys better, they jumped and stuff.

the concept and the model both look sharp--but as you're progressing with your model, i hope you retain the meaty look of his lower legs as portrayed in the concept! keep us posted

Haha This looks awsome Tas! Man I love the lighting in your concept! The model looks great too. It seemes in the concept he's a bit more hunched over and menacing, but that might just be the pose and rigging thing.

here's some more progress...

SLOWW GOING!, been hard to find time. Here's a bit more.

Started the Back Device. The idea behind this device is a Tranlation machine that turns his squeals into human speech, hence the speakerish gadget on his neck.. I'll probebly end up doing some redesigns on this, so its temp for now. Starting some proportion correction So any input would Help.
I'll get some smoothed renders next round... wasnt thinking.

Other than that, took a departure and started modelling his gun based off of an old concept in my sketchbook..

A 50 Cal 6 shooter.. uh huh... thats right!

Hey, looking good. One of my favorite toys sitting around here is the pigcop.

Not crazy about his feet... they don't really look anything like pig feet. Thems got hooves, not claws.

Actually.. Pigs have toes... its a common misconception, I thought they had hooves too until a CG chat member pointed it out ,just do a google search on "Pig"

It's a cloven hoof, the same kind of foot that sheep, goats and cows have. Only horses have plain hooves.

Yup. just make sure you don't use references of the feet after the hoof/nail is removed. they take those and make dog chew-toys with them, leaving the nasty toes.
