Current modelling WIP.This project is me revisiting and older model I made, improving and expanding with everything I've learned since.
Goal is to have a nicely detailed model for handpainting, inspired by assets like in Ruined King, but pushing for a more grounded and higher-fidelity geometry and shape-language.
TOOLS:Blender, Clip Studio Paint, Wacom Intuos Pro M

Where it all began.
This model started as an entry for a fun one week Blender challenge at uni in summer 2022, themed "Pirates".My initial concept-art.
The final render for the challenge, with a bevel modifier on it for a quick'n'dirty mid-poly.
The low-poly model.
This will become increasingly interesting to look back on
Not sure I'll stick with these colours, but I'm quite pleased with the overall result ^-^
Great start!
I certainly get where you're coming from, my original was made looking at photos from actual flintlocks and they're mostly of brown wood and brighter metal. It's a tried and true palette.
But revisiting it, I want to give it a unique touch, hence going for the opposite with bright wood and darker metal.
The inspiration for that was the Sailor Pistol from Sea of Thieves:
It also conveniently segues into my current IP development, where I design for a civilization which has pale driftwood as it's main source of wood.
As it turns out, I stuck with the colours and pushed it further.
Next I plan to do some rough ref-sketches of different view angles and details, to provide guidance for the 3D and animation workflow.
Though, since this project will remain in the concept phase for now, I was wondering whether I should start a thread in the 2D section?
