Trying to decide between these two, both?: (mocked this up)

With the idea of the "switch player type" gaming style that i am seeing lately.

i thought it might be a neat idea to incorporate that into my entry.

Or i will mishmash these two together and create a "new" version of the two from a mixed multiveral reality in the Rick and Morty universe.

Thought it would be neat to try to get the kuato in there also & liked the mixed portal look when rick morty and evil morty where trapped in prime ricks cage match box.

Not sure yet about exact technique, leaning more towards low-spec, perhaps just hand painted.

Target engine: most likely marmoset atm or blender?

Saying it now i have an alternative if i need to change this up but i like the idea and got a style i want to try to make into the dystopian madmax setting.

will be out 1 - 3 weeks from the (21)weeks cause catering to visitors and 1 week to concept and try to mock up some 3d from the concept so ooph, till then.

Tldr; Post would've been a concept (front) letting it simmer, found time(no delay), really early(day start) to not fall behind, cooking a concept 1st.

Well i can't go and break them though, got to be fair, i was just over excited to get this thing going and was like go big!

Also the 1st idea was thought of for the 1st theme, which was as open as possible and what i thought was the most approachable as possible but tightening it did help me generate a concept quicker than i thought. (helps to have a lot of references and idea to pull from, from the chosen entry "story".)

Adding To thread and reason for picking this:

Want to post what i got already but i got to let it cook and think it over, oh i found a time-frame that works which is to get up before everyone else and work on things then, so i am not backed up. Just random fyi.

A relief to see some entrants coming on in, this feel fun already for me, just cooking up ideas and i like going with already made "characters"' and just adding what we wanting and not having to worry bout these generators so much.

For a style seen someone release their game and it has a neat vibe but i do not see the style of R&M being made in that style so that will have to be figured out i think i could try to merge them, its the outlining that maybe the problematic part of the final texturing idea I want to attempt.

About concept: (been having a lot of fun conceptualizing lately)

Keeping it somewhat simple as i can over do it with the details cause i want to add every little thing.

Haven't watched the show in some time so reviewing it all again now while working on the concept and grabbing elements i want to add to the mixed guy and keeping the theme in mind, also am looking though some of the comix they released also, so will be adding some of that stuff in as well. (added someone to the kuato that i think works amazing for the "appeal", and theme of the show and theme of the contest.)

Really liking how it is turning out and hope others think its neat also.

Always wanted to do something with this show but never got around to it, even with all its controversies and people falling out of its story train (ha) cause of changes to the show and its developers.

Just saying this contest pushed me to get it out already and glad to be starting something around the show, even if ultra late, hoping the new seasons bring back the hype train to the show again. (i do not watch many shows at all.)

edit:// okay fixed the "issues" and can write out the description.

Watched all my "fav" or interesting parts of the show and comics and picked which elements i thought to include into the design that i felt would add some "flavor", to it all.

Redesigned the "Portal Gun", a little bit, it wasn't 100% afaik some angles had things in different places and it threw me off so i made my own.

Thought it was so neat to have a Kuato be a Meeseeks, not just any meeseeks (Mr.Sick) the one who can not fulfill his goal, so he is really mean and if he does, he will just poof off Evil Morty Primus's stomach. Eye patch is some sort of two way LCD screen, still smart and still use's the portal gun.

Will be making the backside and things might change or be removed if they do not work out in the 3D version, this was so much fun for me hope it shows, enjoy.

Edit#2 i am aware of the heights difference, it was deliberate. (the "chin", was me messing around and mixing head shapes, it will be "normal Morty head", on final)

This is a 4.5 tall Morty version where he is NO LONGER stuck in loop of being "cloned/replaced" the original Morty is about "4.05 / 0.25" heads tall or so, rick is about 5.5 - Morty heads tall, i checked..

probably this, made a whole thing was too much fun trying to figure it all out.

Working with the story since "rick", dislikes pirates it was not deliberate it just happen and that was cool. time to get to some 3d.

Let me know if it is too busy, i tried to make it simpler, did use reference the kuato is still there.

modeling wip 1 day, used blender to make the rough model sheet, wanted to make it. Was going to be all blender but i got frustrated with it again lol.

updated the concept, will get to everyone's updates when i can shared pc.

.Oh, yea let's see i tried to use the mirror option and the welding option, wasn't playing nice with that super low geometry above, wanted to work on one side only to get the base in but it felt like a struggle to get what i thought was somewhat straight forward process into why isn't it mirroring, i have to also play with that "axis" gizmo and i do not really know how and am probably waayy to used to and like 3dsmax's u.i. if i am 100% honest about all the frustration.

but i figured a little here a little there and I'll switch over, ... eventually.

Since i bumped the thread wanted to add more progress over the "week/strong/end."

Thinking bout this i figured it made some sense to add something to the scene and i always wanted to do this and optimistically with the hopefully simple end result this can work out well enough at the end.

References for this are youtube mechanic videos i merged two builds into this one and or eventually will, i thought it looked fun but still have to figure it all out and make it work well and read well.

Been fired up to start more on Evil Morty, but wanted to get this "difficult" "pedestal" type vehicle out of the way as much as i can.

the channels i watch haven't updated the main source i used to create this design [Grind Hard Plumbing co, trike build] so i had to reference a lot of stuff and try to figure out how these modkits on vehicles are made so keep that in mind, idk if i will make it 100% accurate or anything like that.

Any who, i refined all the bits more so they make functional sense for the most part. Still have to add some minor things & perhaps get a handle on the engine and some of the "wiring" for the engine/exhaust.

i realized this like yesterday i think an entrant named there piece bull, totally not on purpose, i thought south a bull came to mind and the episode i linked is in a sandy area. *sigh*as much as i would love to seem as if i did do this all in blender it wasn't.

had to default to my main if i want to get this done on time and lately haven't had much time to touch these. so it was kind of a good call, bout 1 hour or so since the launch of this challenge.

@sketchem thanks , yeah when i 1st heard the original i was like i got to find the best one and this surely is it, orchestral is an inspiring touch to this.

i try to be big into the 'music' scene and hear the best stuff, though it seems to take a large amount of time to find all of the "hits", and the ones that speak to you. I heard about a shazam application but i do not use any of those neat little apps. (i am missing out on some stuff i am almost certain of it, its dampening to think about.)

However i do appreciate any responses, thanks, ladies and gents.

looks a lot better on my end will upload images since i had a very hard time getting this rotational for sure... you do not want to know how long... idk why this is the situation but it was.

its why i made this little guy in the first place to get a quick "turn around", that ended up not being so quick.

Tried to copy the show and add a little spice.

Very slow updates but i am trying to chug along. This is zbrush, and i didnt look anything up to make it happen i did a lot of trial and error.

haha yea just trying to have fun, don't care to much about the "winning" part, glad to see participants and new artworks, that is winning to me.

In the show someone else made, they said "that is not a six", immediately not thinking bout it to much i made the six as one of the faces and it works cause the one's ... "where it should be" and it works well i think, the other "face for the possible two that i use in the scene", is the four so it is just turned around like in the fighting scene i like how "easy", they are to make multiple, less work for me.

made the portal gun yesterday (not 100% to concept needed adjusting for 3d) this is kind of what i had in mind, i just mishmash-ed what was showin in the show and put them together, so its "grandpa's", and evil morties portal guns together with the handle of rick primes 1st appearance p.gun(sort of).

Still more to do and i imagined the front handle of the gun could pull out so two hands can be used if he needed to shoot "power", like a m.gun.

So the whole theme with this is other people made their versions of morty so i tried my own.

Yippy updates, i am still working out the morty, still blocking out nothing really done there.

Updates again a little more guess i should show E.Morty turning out alright so far.

Thanks peeps, hopefully this sorts out any oddities and the blade is from the episode when they fight rick prime, and the shotgun "change" is from the same episode with the dice.

Need to add hammer to Shotgun and i drew up some straps similar to the ones at E.M.'s sides for the kuato but idk if it makes it noisier with his tattoo's so might not add them.

Just retopologizing for the finals so i can use both the high and lows "within the same meshes", not really going to try hard to much and i kind of like the more smoothed look of say "spherical or circular" elements of this.

Also though that is the thing, i could still make a really low version with a "higher" smoother version, like if it had LOD's? might work.

Probably will do that after the challenge just to see how well it holds up.

Progress slow going but going, some tests also. "squared it all" strategically also, still have to "cross examine it all still", but otherwise "working for tests".

Thinking something possibly "stupid/brilliant/or ,silly" in that i want to "decal his tattoo's, what ya think bout that anyone? is it do-able?

The empty space in the morty head txtrmap is for the design i have in the concept i did not get to it yet. Aiming for 2048's we will see though, i went with the "Q3A", route for the main character, head upper lower type of situation, heh.

Its that time again for me.

Do not remember if i ever cell shaded anything but his was too much fun. Had to customize a shader and i heard there was issues with using certain things, i did not run into any, 1st time "custom node shadering", let me know if i should leave things like this or try to freshen up the styling.

Shading here is part of the comic book reference and is one of the elements i wanted to add into this, and more line work for meeseeks kuato, might have to squash the head hair but i suppose the mohawk type of thing is working. still wip but a little here & there eventually.

There was a part where this guy had an interesting looking gradient glow i kind of wanted to keep but with the light setup it would clash with other elements in the project, i'll post an image later here or in a new post with it.

Overall a lot done but building the shaders is taking a bit of a learning curve for me to grasp and to get the look i am after, ignore the red clipping, its apart of the white shirt outlines. sry if gif is to fast, feel free to make it slower.

but its working the portal and fx are giving me a bit of a hard time but hopefully i can manage them to get this all together.

Another weekly udpate and checking the site/threads/entries.

(for now since i didn't get to posing a dynamic pose and such, but if i can i will upload one before the time, if i did not then i will work on this for the portfolio and post it there with the ride probably.) Only reason i went with shells is because i don't at the moment know how to do it in shaders if that is possible.

Do not know if i become a Judge for the challenge that my entry will even "place", so let that be known now.

Question: Why did i want to make this, design idea?

Answer: I like the idea & story behind the show, felt if they went down the "pirate route", for morty more.
There could be spot for him in the, "dystopian dimension" the theme of the challenge, though i did not chose it, it was "voted on/suggested".

Would be pretty neat if they made an episode of this, show has potential, just need pretty impeccable writing and fleshed out story. For the record i get the one offs and i am fine with them. I'll pick which i like & re-watch the favorites.

Thanks everybody if you participated or not, this was for the fun times & on me end they where had.

Goal:
I finally got a little more comfortable with blender and that was the real achievement for me, this is not 100% blender but it was enough for me right now.

Perhaps if we have the time & people want to organize another in the "future", I'd be down if i am informed of it & enthusiastic about the brief.
