Decided to star small stylized project inspired by Spyro Remastered and an old wallpaper I found some time ago. The main goal is to create few stylized materials using only Designer, add VFX of bats and fog, and create simple shader for the grass and fabric. One more goal it's to create gameready pack of models for marketplaces.
Ideal it's to complete at the end of September, deadline it's 31 of October
Created base shape for props. Decided to make buildings as a constructor with a big parts for the more interesting shapes, but in the future planning to break it for the smaller parts to make it universal. While modeling I'm listening chill Halloween music for the mood )
Not so long ago I remember this project and decided that nothing should be forgotten. So I started to completed all props and materials very fast, almost for the one shot from camera view. Here is what I'm having right now. Right now I think, should I do my own skybox and if yes - how to do it fast as possible.
A quick way to do realtime animated mist & fog is to use UV distortion and a scrolling "clouds" texture. Pretty effective if you tweak it. If you advance to about 0:16 in the video, you can see the maps that go into it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2vLwOAu0UI&t=16s There's a bit more about it on the first page of my sketchbook.
Thanks, Eric Chadwick, for the rapid reaction! I believe it's a simple shader, but I don't know enough about shaders in Unity, so I played "Spiro Trilogy" and saw that they have quite simple clouds in their game. So I just painted a few clouds and assign it to cylinder and got something like that:
Little progress with set dressing, grass texture and post processing. I almost done Decided to leave light realtime because I don't want to save time on uv mapping, and automatic lightmaps doesnt work well here
I happy to say that I finally finished this scene! What started how small art challenge inspired by my Halloween wallpaper - became small 3D scene, which I'm planning to publish in Untiy store. The main gall was do not use any 3th party assets.
It's amazing how hard it is in life to find the perfect time for any project, and unless you start regularly devoting at least half an hour of your time to something, everything can be completed quite quickly. The main thing is not to wait, but to do!
