Hello everyone, I'm starting my side hustle in 3D industry, I'm still learning while modelling and I have wanted to model characters, a lot of people use base mesh and some uses scratch made base to model a character, Few of my friends suggested me to model from scratch as using a base mesh won't be enough to land a good job in 3d industry.
I was wondering if using a base mesh would be good or I should make my own base mesh and start modelling on it to make a character, I mostly plan on modelling and then selling it although I'm stuck on a few things but further ahead in future which option would be better
Sorry for my bad grammer as english isn't my primary language, Thank You.

it can not hurt if you are able to create and show your own. that being said, as someone who joins the industry, chances are you will not create your own for years to come and work with existing ones. so being able to show that you can turn a neutral basemesh into this or that concept can also be important
thanks alot man, I'll use base mesh to create initial models then, seems like it'll be better than taking all at once
Creating one or using one will both have the positive result of reducing the time it takes for you to produce your models. However if you're able to create one of your own you may find a unique avenue in freelance for people who like the way your base mesh in particular looks which could generate more appeal for you. People often post base meshes on places like Cube Brush, CG Trader, Sketchfab, Art Station, Booth.pm etc and they seem to do pretty well depending on the quality of the work or what the platform is interested in.
Thanks a lot man, It'd be crazy to see people liking my own mesh, But i surely wanna do that in nearby future in my life.
Even other's can take from this thread! Thanks for the answers.
I've been struggling to start with character modeling since I'm new to organic stuff but I'll pick it up sooner or later, using basemeshes in the meantime won't hurt, right?
i didn't create my own basemesh for most things i worked on in years. i mean unless it is something unique, it's just not needed.
