Where is UI/UX designed in games?

I wanted to ask about the softwares that are used for UI and UX design in games.
I checked the wiki but I couldn't understand it or didn't find the answer I was looking for.
Are game designed in traditional design software like Adobe Photoshop, Adobe XD, Sketch, etc. or are designed in the game engine itself?
am I supposed to know to code? if yes then what languages? Where are the icons and animations made?
What should an appealing portfolio look like?

Any help is appreciated!!
I am still learning and want to know about different fields in game designing, UI/UX designing seems really appealing but I can't find any info for designing an interface for 'Games'

certainly where I'm at it's a combination of standard design software for the art and some specialised UX wireframing software I can't remember the name of for those doing the thinking.

    implementation depends on the middleware
