First new project of 2021!
Astri Lohne is one of my favourite artists ever and (with their permission) I'm very excited to create their OC Axyl in 3D

I'm indulging myself a little and just doing all my favourite things with this project. A cool character, interesting outfit, horns, weapon, and I think I'll forego game ready in favour of making it a statue/figurine

Basic blockout of all the main pieces! I'm using this to help me define proportions and plan out all the little elements and layers. I'm starting to think now about how I want to approach texturing and detailing the clothing. I want to pose it as a figurine so I don't want to go overboard with the details too early, but I do want to make the most of easier sculpting in symmetrical t-pose...

Worked on the face and body porportions. Adding detail to elements that will benefit from working in a symmetrical t pose (arms, hands, shoes etc) Trying to leave the tiny details and surface texture to the very end but ooooo boy it's tempting

I love her face! At a glance, it looks like her legs could be a little longer and slimmer based on the concept, but I could be miles off here

@HarlequinWerewolf I agree! It’s been a bit of a balancing act getting her proportions to look right both in 3D and accurate to the concept, but I’ve been making changes and her legs definitely needed to be longer!

Worked on the shoulder armour tonight. The reference doesn't show the design of this in detail, so a lot of it i had to figure out myself.
Next is the legs!

this was a big exercise in sculpting style and translating 2d into 3d. I learned a lot and I have new ideas about where I want to take my own personal style and how to achieve it
