How to approach hardening this edges?

Hi I want to harden this edges but the problem is when I place an edge loop it goes all the way through the model and affects the shape of the cylinder.

How can I redirect the edges so they dont affect the whole model?

You could simply not connect those. Having ngons in those areas would be totally fine because its a flat surface. So. Just remove those evil edges that you marked on the second picture.

You can connect it like this. Add green, remove orange.
