making a car with an interior – workflow

Hi,
I coldn't find any tips on the internet about it, although I think its very important in game ready models. As the title says – what's the workflow for the cars with interiors?
I just finished an exterior with a blueprint of Volvo 240 and I don't have any clue how should I start with the interior. Should it be individual, non-extruded mesh? "Solidify" in Blender breaks the topology inside of a car and it works with simple separted meshes like car doors.
I duplicated the roof, scaled it down and now I'm connecting faces manually.


It works for now but I'm pretty sure it's not correct workflow, because it takes a long time and still you can easy screw something up.
