Question is: what are you trying to communicate to player?
Then, is that effective, or not?
Last thing then, when the message is being clearly delivered, make it look as cool as possible. Adjust your background, lighting, props, etc.
That's my method anyway.

Number 1 looks awesome. Would be great to see a neat statue of a bird.
