someone wants me to do several weeks worth of 3d work for them, should I have a contract written up?

a 'creative person' (not a game industry person which is actually what Im aiming for career wise) has asked me to do some 3d work for them. I've worked out it would take me 7 weeks to complete, however this could be a bit longer depending on their whims etc.
For me, this would be full time and it would get in the way of my own work/study etc, so I consider this work a bit of a burden.
I haven't given them the price I would charge. Originally I was thinking £250, however I realised this is below minimum wage, which is around £299 per week in the UK. A professional photographer said I should ask for £150 minimum a day (which seems a bit excessive, but i guess Im new to this).
finally, my friend the photographer insisted I should write up a contract myself and ask the 'creative person' to sign it.

If the quote and the body of work is a lot you can arrange a 15-25% upfront payment/deposit. You can also have a mid project payment and then final payment once it's all signed off and delivered.
Be clear with your payment type you prefer and also whether there will be any currency conversions as you could lose some money there.
State the duration of the work.
State what the work entails and what your deliverables will be and how you will send the work to them.
State how the work will be approved and signed off.
State what the cost of additional work will be, should it occur.
With credit, state whether you can show the work on your portfolio.

Besides having a contract, make sure you use email communication as a time stamped, digital paper trail. For example if you have a voice chat meeting, then afterwards you'll want to send an email summarising the meeting notes to make sure everyone is on the same page.
Also you should start work once paper work has been fully signed.
