[WIP] Revolver Ocelot

Hey Polycount!

I am currently working on a sculpt of Revolver Ocelot based off of the Metal Gear Solid 1 concept art made by Yoji Shinkawa.

This is currently where i am at and i would love some feedback/critique.

For the hair i am using Fibremesh to blockout the design.

Looking good so far proportionally. What are you using for references other than the concept art?

Interesting fact after quickly glancing at the Revolver Ocelot Wiki it turns out Hideo Kojima had the actor Lee Van Cleef in mind as a character reference in the design process! If you wanted to go that route you might consider using his face to enhance your sculpt.

Neverthess, some of the volumes in the face will have to be considered, as it stands there doesn't appear to be much in the way of underlying musculature/fat. Furthermore, please see the below drawover:

Hey! you should focus more on the secondary/tertiary forms before going into details. From the side view you should check for the plane changes of the nose and the part under the mouth, also seems like there is something weird on the cheeck. You will get it, i post some links that help you understand better, try to compare your sculpt, focus on the bone landmarks first then muscles

Hi @kotis2 It's coming along. But you have major issues with the primary forms and plane changes. Just to reiterate what @BestiART said, you need to take a step back and focus on your larger forms before diving into detailing. I recommend doing quick sculpt studies to get a feel for the different planes and more importantly, study the skull. Here's one reference you can keep by your side. Also I suggest removing the fibermesh when grabbing screenshots for crit, it's hiding important forms that can throw off your whole piece. For example the posterior side of the cranium.

Keep in mind not sit on this piece for too long, take it as a learning experience and apply your knowledge onto the next piece. Cheers

did a quick plane study made from the ocelot head, i realize now just how much needs to be improved on the original sculpt.

Do you think it be better that i work on a lot of different studies of skulls, planes and full faces rather than try and force the character to work?

yes in my opinion would be better, try to understand why there are plane changes, that's important.. don't just copy but try to understand deeply

Hey Everyone!

I have worked on a handful of face studies and thought i might give his face another go. I cant seem to get his face right.

I should also add that the tertiary details were added a few months ago when i didn't know that layers existed
