This was my submission to Artstation's Real Time Character contest with the theme being Feudal Japan - The Shogunate. I decided to tell the tale of Uji no Hashihime, a woman so scorned she sought to become an oni. Overall pretty happy with the piece, and I felt I captured the mood I was looking for from the quick concept painting I did.
You can see the entire work in progress submissions, along with a short video and a marmoset viewer at my submission page. Let me know what you think, and I hope you enjoy the piece!
I find your character cool ! Maybe you could give more love to your envi background? (More contrast, a lighting who have a mood, less harsh shadow even if it is moon light on your scene). I think your character will be more in light
Here is an example of mood for better understanding But maybe it isn't your art line direction !
Thank you for your reply! I do agree that the background could be pushed more. Lighting is still a relatively new thing to me, and im working on understanding its complexities more with each piece. The lighting in that screenshot is definitely more evocative and fitting for a more night scene.
