UE4- Back sooner than I thought! Magpie and Vase stylised PBR scene

Hey!

I've been doing lots of 2D work recently, a painting a day, but I decided I would also like to start a 3D project, so an idea came to me at work on Friday. And here I am! Sooner than I expected....

The big different with this project is I am going to record everything I do with it into Youtube videos documenting my thoughts

I made a big long video at the end of my last project, but I've had a few requests for a start to finish series on a project. A smaller project like this will be a nice test.

So, on with the concept!

I want the scene to be small and manageable, but also challenging, so I'm going to go back to PBR for the first time in a while and also try animating more aspects of the scene than usual. I don't have much in the way of a plan yet, but we'll see where it goes.

I'm currently working on an updated concept version which I will post here when done, and maybe a video link too.

How are you going to present the 3d model ? Marmoset tool bag is an option as it now supports animations.

Yeah, I tend to use Unreal Engine 4

If I find UE4 isn't working for me on this project then I might give Marmoset a shot too!

Okay good, you will learn something new about Unreal 4 undoubtedly along the way aswell. Best of luck for the project. As you are doing a bird i suggest you look at this thread where @Ognyan creates "fawkes" a bird from harry potter, well worth having a look at for inspiration. http://polycount.com/discussion/comment/2614421#Comment_2614421

Just watched your video, i was instantly draw to the second magpie idea, either way its working out really well. The critics you got from your friends helped, especially with the flower sizes. I feel as there might be something else on the ground at a grave stone like this, a mirror could be cool, maybe broken. would be quite easy to do, and i can imagine the reflections being of the bird sat on the vase, and this would be like having a second magpie but with more emotion. The bird feathers ie the glossiness and iridescent effect are going to be testing in pbr. Keep it up.

This is the bake for my stone with a flat white material on it, so I'll be texturing that properly later.

I'm just working on my next video quick and then I'll be blocking out some grass tests! I'm really excited to do the grass
