Hello, figured this would be a good spot for posting bits of 2D and 3D work Im working on, to start heres a model of 343 Guilty Spark from Halo which id been using to practice some LiveBoolean stuff from Michael Pavlovichs Zbrush tutorials (in particular adding bevels to a booleaned mesh.)

Heres some wip bits from the artstation 'beneath the waves' challenge.

the 5 prop ideas being devloped are :
1. a minisub
2.a diving suit
3. a crab mech
4. a trillodrone (think a trillobite crossed with a roomba)
5. an ancient statue

so far the biggest design challenge has been to make the trillodrone and crab mech not feel like something that should be in the creature design category.

Elf Sculpt, with some posing (I usually wait till a character is rigged before doing that, but figured with sculpts I dont intend to take past high poly it would help improve the presentation to have soemthing with with a bit more life to it).

Last Model of 2018, wanted to do some Hardsurface practice between Boxing Day and New Years, and Star Wars has been on my mind a lot recently so decided to make a BB-8 model. Might take him through to Low Poly and Riggin some time in the new year.

Retopologised and Textured the BB8 model over the past few days, took it into Substance (using masks and genrators as much as possible) and outputed textures that should work with a bunch of applications (Arnold, UE4, Unity etc). current renders doen using Arnold.

after BB-8 and the Polycount Environment challenge I wanted to do a character this week, so I opted for a stylized astronaut character, originally tried making him in Zbrush but was having difficulty getting the right control of the forms I wanted so I opted for ye old poly modelling in Maya from Cylinders and spheres, sometimes the simpler approach is the best, most of the time over the past few days was spent getting the major forms and topology of the body, hands and head right, with the astronaut bits being modelled in this evening, might take him through UV, texture and rigging.

towards the end of may I suffered some software issues where maya wouldnt open, spent a week trying different solutions with no success including a clean uninstall of all autodesk products from my machine, decided I would use this as an opportunity to learn new software, so spent a few weeks learning max and loving it so far. the transition has helped reinforce which modelling workflows will translate bewtween software.

some recent stuff ive done with it includes these Overwatch robot head studies.

Dusting off the old sketchbook thread, in the time since I last posted here, I've moved to blender as my primary 3D program (though I still like doing sculpting in Zbrush and most texturing tasks in Substance). Currently decided to do some low poly interpretations of the mechs from Into the Breach, starting with the Rift Walkers team.

Ghost V2, A remake of one my first successful models in Blender 2.8. The original model was mostly an exercise in sub-d modelling with the materials relying mostly on procedurals outside of the eye texture, with the new I wanted to change that now being more familiar with the Blender/Substance pipeline.
The model was textured across 11 UDIM tiles in Substance and then set up and rendered in Cycles (though they transfer just as well across into Eevee with only some alterations needed for the Lens Shader.)
