I'm trying to build a portfolio and thought I would start with one of my favorite characters. Also trying to build a better workflow. Based on this interpretation by Ian Su Always looking for critique and suggestions! Will post updates.
I turned off the polypaint so that I could see forms a bit better. I forgot how distracting color can be. The face was looking a little squished, so I pulled the chin down a bit. Do you guys have any tips on how I can push this further or where I might begoing wrong? Thanks o/
Hey @Solid_Otter, I'm really liking the style for with this! It feels like you've gone towards a different style from the concept you listed, but I think it's great that it actually has some more of your influence in it (and it's still unmistakably the Major).
The longer face looks much better than before but maybe you've also lost some of the earlier personality with the eyes (mostly looking under the eyes at the lower lids) but that might just be a different look from the poly painting. How do you think you'll approach the hair? It's looking awesome so far, so I hope you keep at it!
@dGreenberg Thanks for replying! I agree with you. It definitely is diverging from the source art quite a bit. I'd like to bring it closer to the original concept so I'll be tweaking that a bit. As for the hair, I'm not too familiar with the workflow yet. I'm still looking at different ways to approach it. On one hand, I'd like to try learning hair cards. Part of me wants to keep it super stylized though. I'll probably experiment with both.
Hi, I think the legs and hips need work, considering they're a focal point, or maybe just because I like nice legs. I don't have photoshop installed right now or I'd do a paint over, to show where you can improve, but take a look at photos of womens legs, and then the anatomy.
@oreoorbitz I agree with you. I tried reworking the legs a bit here. Will probably have to revise more after I find solid reference. @Oliver Hopley I think there's an interpenetration issue there that's causing it to look like that. Also The opacity on the lens might be too low. Thanks for picking that up Some Renderman tomfoolery:

Good luck!
Any specific areas that need revising? I'm working on the issues with the arms atm but I'm sure that's not the only thing.
