Walk/Run Cycles

Hi guys,

I thought I would animate a walk/run cycle and see if I could hook them up in Unreal. I'm going for a cool hitman style walk with attitude.

I have a tendency to over animate so I'm trying to keep this subtle and realistic. The idea is its a slow walk and from this I can build a faster walk as well as run and hook them up in Unreal.

looking really nice man. I think the pelvis up/down and roll can be a 2 to 3 frames later than the heel contact. and tiny bit of forward/backward on the pelvis, pelvis follows a similar ellipse path as the ankle viewed from the side. maybe a wee bit of up-foot out to the side on the cross overs.

slight hiccup on the right leg at cross over; and left leg on the push off.

Thanks for the notes, Regarding the hiccups, do you have frame numbers?

By cross over, I assume you mean when the foot travels forward to plant?

I'll definitely add the pelvis forward/backward motion. Would that mean actually translating the COG controller forward and back?

right foot around frame 18; left foot around frame 32/33. yea by cross over I mean the foot that's off the ground moving toward plant. and yea, a very subtle forward/backward motion in the COG or pelvis controller, not sure how that rig is setup.

Pretty good! The thing I would watch is the left arm f40-47. Because it's moving at the same time as the hips it seems to hit a wall and is slightly static.

So I used the walk to build a faster walk to blend into. This was a little tricky to get smooth since its a lot of motion in a short time. Sometimes I see a pop in the side to side motion of the body and sometimes I don't so any notes are appreciated before I do a final pass and move onto the run.

feels a little bit like its just the exact same walk but sped up - since he's walking faster I would expect more swing in his arms and also some more twist in his body - maybe his overall posture is slightly forward more as well

Huh, you know I did do all of those things but I guess I didn't push it enough. One of my common mistakes. Anyway, pushed it more and I think it looks better and varies it up more from the slow walk.

Do you see a pop in the side to side translation or is it just me?

nice - I'm not seeing the pop - think you're good. I would maybe point his toes up a bit more on the contact frame, foot feels a bit flat there

Final cycle:

This is supposed to be a slower jog more than a fast sprint. I found this one tougher than the walks because its not too slow so not as many frames to work with and not too fast so you can't hide poppy motion.

Any final notes is appreciated before I hook these up in Unreal.
