3ds Max vertices selection issue

I'm starting to unwrap a model in 3ds Max but I am having an issue where it is not letting me select many of the vertices. I am able to select some but it seems completely random. And it appears to mostly want to select vertices on the opposite side of the model.

I have looked around online for answers, but no luck. Any ideas?

Max 2017 got selection bug that I noticed as well, sometimes unable to select certain verts/ edges/ faces. You can try to convert to editable mesh then back to editable poly, it'll fix sometimes, but some other time it just simply wont. Rotate viewport from another angle to view your mesh also might help with the selection bug, sometimes...

But on your screenshot, you're not in vert subobject mode.

Looks like he's using the point to point seam tool in unwrapUVW.

Maybe try resetting xforms and trying again?

Collapse the stack, enter Edit Poly's vertex subobject mode. Unhide all in the command panel. Try working with Unwrap UVW again afterward. If that doesn't fix it, enter vertex subobject mode again, CTRL+A to select all, then click in the viewport to deselect the verts and enter Unwrap UVW.

It's worth a shot if nothing else.

Tried all your advice and still no luck. I exported the file to fbx and opened it that way, still didn't work. Point to point seams doesn't work but the "edit seams" does now, so I will just do it that way. Very strange issue that I can at least get around, but it is now a matter of knowing if I did something to make it occur or if it is a bug. -So if anyone else has some ideas, that would be great to help put my mind at ease

Reset XForms fixes it for me. Your model has a scale value of -88. If you Reset XForms and turn off backface cull, you'll see that your model is inside out. Use a Normal modifier to flip the model then collapse. The point to point seam tool will work after that.

I miss the days when Max defaulted to backface cull on object creation.

You even got a preferences setting for that "Preferences->Viewports->Backface Cull on Object Creation"
But be aware that backface culling seriously hurts your viewport performance when wireframes are displayed ...
