[FINISHED] Witcher Hunter

Today I decided to create a character that was sitting in my concept folder for a while now. With all Witcher models that were uploaded to Artstation recently, I couldn't help myself.

I'll be creating the Witcher Hunter, concept by Face Zero

Body is pretty much untouched, I gotta find a good reference, focused on the face, to get the right proportions.

Nice work so far! I think he seems a little thin from the side, though, especially given his girthier look from the front.

His head also may be a tad small, unless you're going for more heroic proportions.

That reference and comment helps a lot, as I had some issues finding the new ones. I will fix the overall proportions while I get the body in place, I had a feeling the back is feeling too thin

a bit of an update

Started to block out lower body armour to get a sense of proportions and work on belly fat.
I made an artistic decision towards face, as i dont like the concept one very much. I wont make it so wrinkled etc.

Another update.

Plan is to make him cinematic, all the details will be in displacement map besides overall textile noise.

Next stage - hands and blockout for all the chest gear. After all that is done, I'll come back to each piece and bring it to awsome detail level

Looks pretty much spot on to the reference, that is one ugly fat guy.

The lower part of his boots seem to lack the detail of the upper portion of his boots. But you'll probably get to that. Looks great.

You are off to a great start, but I think he feels a bit smaller than on the concept. He does not feel as heavy and bulky, and I believe if you push all the forms a bit he would feel more heavy and imposing. Especially around his stomach and chest area. But that could also be for the lack of all the gear. Just keep an eye out for the forms before going to deep in to detailing.

I think this looks great but I can't help agree with lots of the other critiques about the fact that he doesn't feel as heavy as the concept dictates. He just feels wide but not as fat or muscley as he should.

I think you should push the deformation of the head a bit more, take a look at the forehead for example, while he has some deformations at the moment the concept conveys way deeper grooves and lumps. Keep up the good work!

Thank you! That is the artistic decision I was talking about, I think the forehead deformation on the concept in too heavy so I decided to skip it and make some overall changes. He will still be fat and ugly tho

This is looking really good so far. I think the face might need a 30% "Edward James Olmos" action to match the pitting on the concept, especially on the forehead.

I really love the model so far! He definitely looks like he would be a handful to deal with.

His head does look like it's a bit smaller/skinnier than the original concept although I know you said you were making some changes from the concept. His expression could also be pushed a bit further to make him look even more mean.

I can't wait to see what he looks like finished!

There still will be a lot of work to body/face in terms of secondary/tertiary detail. Expression will be changed in the end also

Great work..keep it going! Only thing is the head size, that is bothering me a bit (if that is not intentional)
His face reminds me a bit of this character

He's coming along really well. Maybe some more visible veins on his arms would help to emphasize his strength a bit? That might be a nice detail to add

There is a cloth coming from his shoulder, down his arm. I probably should seprate these with a different colour next render.

Added the remaining maps today(roughness mostly). Gotta play with scatter depth next. Everything will be tweaked few times by time I finish it anyways ^^

Thank you! To be fair, I did not plan on adding them from the very beginning. Once i got into texturing I noticed that he forhead looks really boring, so i probably will do that

If you really want this guy to shine, I would certainly focus on getting all that fantastic wrinkle/scar detail from the concept into your model

Ive had this guy in a potential projects folder for a while just because of that face!

Really nice progress on the face! From now it is a real eye catcher!
In my opinion you could add a few more fine pore details and add some more details on the lips.

Seems like you are losing some wrinkle detail in your bake though? Looking at your ZB viewport vs your latest paint, the face details seem about 20-25% softer?

yeah, I noticed that. I had my scatter depth(sss) set a little bit too high and flat light also washes out detail. Changed it a bit
