Is there anyway to cut into a ZBrush mesh?

I've honestly been trying to figure this out since yesterday, but is there any tools in ZBrush that will allow you to actually cut into or through a model, but not all the way through?

Dynamesh Booleans can do partial cuts. Depending on what you're trying to do, there are also a number of ways to extrude polygroups into a model

It's a solid mesh type, used when modeling by additive/subtractive means, regardless of topology.

basically it's a way of using one piece of solid geo to cut out or add onto another mesh(the boolean) resulting in an automatic localised retopology.

wikipedia is a friend to all. For very basid, very general questions like this you might want to do some of your own research. A goid habit for anybody attempting to learn CG.

The cut brush or slice will cut your mesh and put the cut into a different polygroup. You should explain what you want to do. You will get better advice.

You know you're right, I have a character I'm developing for a contest, and a major design element is the ability for her to open her mouth abnormally wide, achieved by a slit along the cheeks. This is a sketch of what I'm trying to achieve:

Are you using a pre-built basemesh or are you using dynamesh? Or a mesh from Zspheres?
