I've honestly been trying to figure this out since yesterday, but is there any tools in ZBrush that will allow you to actually cut into or through a model, but not all the way through?
It's a solid mesh type, used when modeling by additive/subtractive means, regardless of topology.
basically it's a way of using one piece of solid geo to cut out or add onto another mesh(the boolean) resulting in an automatic localised retopology.

The cut brush or slice will cut your mesh and put the cut into a different polygroup. You should explain what you want to do. You will get better advice. Cheerio
