WIP: Cyberpunk City Tile Set

NEW BEGINNINGS!

Just began working on a portfolio project, focusing on improving my environmental art skill set. I'm using modular assets to build a game ready scene, in unreal engine. Critique, comments are greatly appreciated. Here are the most recent shots from the scene.

These current shots are tiles I've modelled for one particular block of the city blocks that will be created. These blocks then can be tiled to customize different scenes/neighbourhoods.

This is my current moodboard. I'm going for a Deus Ex style of building, with little touches of the future/cyberpunk elements to create something that is still relatable to the now.

If i were you i'd try to check out Shadowrun Returns and it's respective expansion packs (Dragonfall and Honk Kong) plenty of inspiration there.

Shadowrun is rad, a team I worked with at university used it heavily for inspo when it came to the environment aspect of things. It was isometric though, but WAY ahead of you. Great game with some great art, thanks for the idea! :proud:

"working hard"

In light of adding punky in your face elements, I have a hard love for neons, and cyberpunk being very in your face, and sometimes crude on a dystopian level, I modeled some neon "graffiti" as the centerpiece for a hotel gone rogue.

I'm not going for subtle, in your face is exactly what I'm going for but if you were to elaborate on some ways how it could be more subtle I'm open to suggestion as I'm still in VERY VERY VEEEERY early stages of modelling pieces. I'll play with sizes and what not to see if it looks better a little smaller, but for now it's having the exact effect I intended it to have.

Still undecided on what to change about the girl plastered on the front of my building, today I scattered the air con units, I plan to model various sizes as well to emulate that of a crowded and overpopulated building like in this ref image. I also blocked out a basic fire escape which is subject to change as I add other components to the building.

Chucked it into Unreal Engine to have a suss for size, and ended up having to resize it in engine, but easy fixed. Looks pretty okay, will cap off the neons so it's not so blocky, and flows more naturally, as neon lights do.

The scale of some individual elements looks a bit off; the ladder and neon sign in particular look very thick (as you noted).

Hey friends! I'm sorry I haven't updated in a while but I'm COMPLETELY reworking my assets for this building, I've sourced some inspo from Overwatch, the Hanamura map in particular and have taken note of how subtly they expressed their futuristic style with everyday elements found in today's world.

So I've been reworking scale, shape, and my reference.

More rework stuff from today, I'll be exporting some assets over from the old set to combine with these, but here is progress for city 3.0

Reworked asset list 22/8
- Wall variations (both straight and curved, decided on working in some zbrush textures so everything is now beveled
- Road tiles (added curvature to the set, so I have more freedom with paths
- Window variations, both modern and present day window designs, instead of one set window tile

New assets 22/8
- Signs (basic and a sign that snaps around the side of a curved wall tile)

I'm really liking this project so far. Looking at the assets it looks like you're going for a cyberpunk strip club, you could play with that giant bent over lady a bit more and integrate it into the facade a bit more. perhaps lower her down so her feet are almost flush with the ground floor, and enhance the main entrance a lot more so you literally walk between her legs. you could really push that provocative feel and will help sell the ''local favorite'' using that!

This actually reminded me of the 'Titty Twisters'' sign from Dusk til Dawn.

Can I ask something, the modular assets stay within 3dsmax and you model whatever you want or do you put them in the engine and build everything there? And do you make holes in the wall for windows or do they float over the walls?
