project a flat mesh over a more complex one?

Hello , I was wondering if is possible ot project a flat mesh plane witha proper subdivision over another surface more complex one so to adapt to its shape ...

The idea is to replace with a simplier model the more complex one , but have a simplier model that have a perfectly squared uvmap so to not have to go in the complex model and do it all manually ... is that anyway possible?

What you are looking for is called shrinkwrapping. It can be done in Maya, but also in all other softwares, i guess.

If using TT- Shrinkwrap, just make sure to clone your mesh or save before use as the undo function is bugged once you commit to a wrap and you won't be able to retrieve your meshes state before the shrink.(might not be the case on older versions of Max as this was last updated for 2012)

This was introduced in 2012 I think so that would be the case. Try the Turbotools free script above. There are several useful other tools in there too.
