  Max doesn't natively, but the plugin Polyunwrapper does.

  You can render out a UV map with the shells as solid white, then use photoshops average tool to figure out the % based on the color you get.

  I cant remember the exact name of the options, but I had to enable something UDIM related
  I might get time to look into it later.
