Can we make a list of the companies that still use and are going to keep using handpainted techniques for the next upcoming years? Everybody is moving next gen, yes that's great, but here in polycount there're a lot of artists who are passionate about painting this technique since is more like old school painting. If someone knows about a similar list here in polycount I will appreciate the link, if not I guess we can start one, if that's the case I will come back to this thread a week later and start adding company names.

Are you talking about studios that completely forego highpoly art, or more just the hand painted aesthetic in general?

That probably won't quite answer your question, but studios relying on "diffuse only" painted assets increasingly do so by working from baked sculpts anyways, as it is in many cases faster (especially when designs are complex and detailed), provides fantastic results and makes everything consistent. The sculpts / high poly models don't even have to be very tight - just enough for the forms to bake down well.

Yea there are primarily three 'hand painted' styles:

-Diffuse only without highpoly
-Diffuse only with highpoly baked in
-Diffuse as focus with normal/spec/etc. for additional effects like shadows (Guilty Gear Xrd)

Mostly every mobile studio out there. Since you need to make games work on older device, they aren't strong enough to support much yet.

that will be a difficult list to compile since there is no real way of knowing for sure what art style a developer is going to use on a future title. just because they have a history with one art style does not mean they will always produce games using the same visual style.
