Adobe SneakPeak - Extract Shading

Adobe is currently working on a way to automatically separate the color and shading information in an image. It seems like it could be a real time saver when using photo references that weren't cross-polarized.

It is? I haven't played with any of the newer builds in a few months, but it seemed to me that it was the best open source photoshop alternative available and actively maintained. Has the project been falling apart?
Really nice stuff
It's not falling apart, it's improving and it's easily the best free painting software around. The problem is the workflow outside of painting leaves a lot to be desired, imo. I still need to have PS open every time I have Krita open. But Krita is outclassing it in panting, that wrap mode is invaluable.
Why is it an epic mess?
Depends of what you wanna do. I'm no texture artist but it is part the best free painting software out there, I even think it's better than alot of paid programs such as SAI or Corel Painter.
Now of course, if you wanna do in-depth texture work such as extracting alpha channels, making Normals, extracting diffuse or lighting info, it's a lil bit more complicated since that's not what the program was intended for. Krita is a PAINTING software before everything else and photoshop is an all-around pricy image editing software (that has been there for over 2 decades now).
Epic mess is...a strong word. It's one of the most solid jewel I've played these past years.
Back on topic, I'm no modeler, shading,texture guy but the accuracy and examples shown above in the video are really impressive. I'm sharing with some of my friends.
