Hey guys,

was wondering if I could get some advice. I have the high poly all set but Im unsure how to go about creating the low poly to fit it for baking. Decimation Master and Reduce in Maya dont work all that well, wanted to know if anyone had any other pipelines or ideas. Thanks!

Do you have Maya 2014 at a minimum?

Or 3Dcoat?

Or ZBrush Retopo tools?

Or Topogun?

I have Maya 2016, and Z4R7. What are you thinking?

You can either use Modeling Tools > Quad Draw in Maya to do your retopology, or use the Retopology tools in Zbrush.

you could just always duplicate your high poly and remove unnecessary edges.

Agree with Oniram, if you've built your HP reasonably clean, just duplicate the mesh and start deleting and collapsing edges.

Something hardsurface like this with straight edges and cylinders isn't going to do so well if you're manually re-topoing by placing new verts.

Before you retopo, you might want to soften some of those edges to better match the model and for in-engine read. Additionally the grip and the indentation at the front seem like they should be rounder overall, but I'm only basing that on some net reference like this: http://www.imfdb.org/images/9/93/WASP_gun_revolver.jpg so ymmv.

I've read there's a hero and a stunt version with a different trigger, but otherwise the same.

Hey guys, sorry for the long wait between updates. I went back and redid the low poly, beveled a few edges here and there and I think the results look pretty good. Still working on the textures but heres an update
