SOLVED: Mesh obj in quixel has only default blank material.

I find that when i use an obj to generate textures in quixel... sometimes the 3d previewer has no material and nothing i change in the texture is ever applied to it.. sometimes its just 1 peice of the model that has that. What gives. Having lots of trouble with this. Its kind of a show stopper here...

Found that if i hit refresh.. the materials start working again.

not completely sorted.. just ran into the issue again.. where 1 peice of the model has the same issue (even though all seperate meshes are combined into 1 big mesh)... refreshing the textures does nothing.

Hi again kurylo3d,

So it seems your mesh has two mesh groups, one for the pole and one for the rest (polySurface22 and TurtleDefaultBakeLayer). You should be able to see the two groups when plugging in the mesh into the Base Creator:

This means one material will be created per mesh group. This is why one part of the mesh is textured, and the pole remains untextured; in the DDO window you should see two tabs, one for each group (of which one has only been textured).

If your mesh is just supposed to be one whole object with just one UV, make sure to collapse down the two groups into just 1 group before you create the project, and it will share just 1 texture for the entire object.

It actually didnt help. Because the mesh is actually 1 group.. with 1 material in maya.. with 1 uv map. So no... no help...

Could it perhaps have something to do with Turtle? I see a group in there called "TurtleDefaultBakeLayer", could it be this gets added automatically somehow on export?

Not going to lie.. I have directly imported that obj model after i exported it... then reexported the imported version. Usually OBJ is the end all be all to cleaning up a model.. yet the problem persists.. this is why i am thinking mayas turtle renderer might be the issue. Turtle is what i use to generate normals and occlusion maps. usually since it comes with maya 2015. Ill mess with it later, but i have no asnwers for you (or me) right now.

Thanks kurylo3d for the insight -- I hope we can get this sorted swiftly, quite a frustrating issue I have to say. I'll let you know if I come up with any answers as well.

Think I figured a way around it. One must first disable turtle. Then copy the model. Then hit file -> new. Paste the model. And export that version in the new scene with turtle never having been enabled in that scene. If you export that obj it comes into quixel ok so far.
