I wanted to try something different today that was rock or metal so I created a rubber floor.

Going for a dirty rubber floor that has a lot of fresh grunge. Not going for something that has been sun bleached and grey and washed out.

Here is the photo ref I am using.

All materials created using Quixel Suite.

I haven't looked too much at rubber, but as of right now I think the dirt is a little bit too computer generated/uniform which is probably a result of using quixel without doing any hand edits on the masks it uses to generate from.

I'd personally get in there with a brush and do an additional layer of work on the material masks and materials themselves to counteract it.

I know you're going for fresh grunge but I would still probably lower the opacity on the dirt a bit.

Another dirt pass as well as adding sticky spilled substance to the floor to give it more definition and life.

I would add a little more dirt in the recessed areas.

Spent some more time with the material and textures tonight. Still not feeling right about how its sitting.

Wanted to try separating the dirt from the sticky into 2 different reads.

On the dirt I added more in the recessed areas with a harsher edging.

I have gotten feedback that the sticky substance is not reading right on the rubber that it looks like an error. May possibly remove it outright or reduce amount on material.

I think maybe the sticky stuff substance looks to much like the dirt, texture detail wise, along with its pattern across the surface, maybe try getting it to look more "pooled" and settle into the crevices around the rubber studs? Digging the rubber!

Tonight I just focused on making the dirt feel blended with the rubber and more layered and not as harsh. Removed the sticky substance.

I think the update on the dirt looks great! Definitely blends better and is not as harsh. My crit on the dirt would be that I think it would be a tad more natural if it was built up closer to the circles...basically in the crevices where the circles meet the inlayed areas. Doesn't have to be this way everywhere but possibly in some areas. As for the sticky areas, I actually really liked it being part of the same texture...added some nice areas that popped in the spec. To me, it read like some sort of liquid so I think the effect was successful. Great work Josh!

@Slosh- Thank you for your feedback! I have added more dirt build up next to the raised discs as well as added back the sticky substance and did a pass on that.

Removed rounded cube embossed depressed shapes in the negative area and replaced with chipped rubber.

I brightened the dirt by about 10 percent. Had feedback that it was getting lost next to the rubber especially when squinting.

I definitely like the changes at the end. Your specular and flat mat dirt mix work really well.
