  Is this fps gain perceptually noticeable, or are you simply going by the number? You might want to get a second opinion via FRAPS or somesuch. Maya 2015?

  grids make your fps go slower, you have a grid on the first shot. I'm not sure what is about the 1 viewport tho.
  
  And yes, Maya FPS is a bit awkward, I wouldn't use it.
