Tool names don't appear on hover [Maya2012]

Hi, I'm not sure if this goes in here or in technical talk, but it doesn't seem technical enough so I'll just put it here.
In my Maya 2012, hovering above any tool does not seem to cause the name of the tool nor their functions to pop up in a small white textbox like they normally do. Did I accidentally turn some setting off? Is there any way of turning it on again?
