Sadly, I don't think I will be able to make it this year. I have a wedding to attend earlier in the month. I haven't attended since 2010. Hopefully I can get out there for 2015. I'm going to save up to make sure, and I should have a prototype ready for next year.

On the contrary, I think for most people the studios pay for the pass/stay/flight. There is no way I'd pay it out of my own pocket.

I actually don't buy the poaching argument. It's actually quite the opposite if you want real employee retention.

First GDC should always be a normal expo pass so you can see what GDC is all about first. Once you have a few under your belt and know how to manage your time for the week while networking and recovering from a hang over then I would think about "Maybe" getting the full pass but I personally have been to around 5 GDC's and never needed the full pass.

Check the Visual Arts (maybe Design track too?) and see how many classes interest you. Is that worth $1000?

Some years yes. When Unreal 3 was first shown and Bay Raitt spoke and Tim Schafer first showed off Psychonauts in the same year (at least I think it was)? YES! I also won a TV one year that Microsoft first showed off Xbox Live on the 360. That was totally worth it. The TV retailed for $1000 at the time.

The PC meet up is worth the drive/flight/train/donkey ride to San Fran and the hotel so don't count that.

I'm pretty bummed I don't think I'll be able to come up with the cash to afford the flight and hotel this year. Was really looking forward to seeing all the cool people I met the last 2 times and making this my hat trick attendance year.

Hey Sukotto, did you manage to get a hotel this year that doesn't make you have to walk through parts of the tenderloin to get to downtown? :V

You summoned me, master? Yeah I booked a hostel that appears to be pretty close to Lefty's. I'll miss ya this year, buddy!

But I can't wait to see familiar faces and meet some new ones I've connected with over the year. According to the FB group, sounds like it will most likely happen Wednesday night?

So, this will be my first GDC.

Since there's not much here locally, (in Phoenix, AZ) I haven't met too many guys and gals at work in gaming face-to-face so I'll admit I'm slightly nervous

But I'd love to meet a lot of the people who make the cool stuff I see around here on a daily basis.

And if you got em, I could definitely use some tips for the first time attendee!

GDC canada is about 1/40th the size as regular GDC

As I moved to America not too long ago this will be my first GDC and I 'd love nothing more than meeting all you wonderful people in person and hopefully making some new friends. I tried to get a meetup going during last years E3 but sadly it fell through so I'll gladly jump on this chance.

Less than 7 weeks! Looking forward to meeting a lot of people finally and catch up with a few of you all that I know already.

There's gonna be a lot of people there it sounds like. Hopefully Lefty's will be able to hold everyone. Not really sure of an alternative. I know that one Waitress is gonna be super happy to see us all...
