Does anybody know how to speed up the workflow in Max when working with extremely large objects. I'm talking moon sized objects, roughly 2 miles across kind of size.

The windows tend to get a bit wonky with rendering the textures and it's hard to move stuff around...

I had to put together a 4 mile square chunk of London for a pilot training thing a few years back and had all sorts of problems. In the end we worked to scale - can't remember if we went with 1/10th or 1/100th - but it suddenly became a lot more manageable when you weren't dealing with massive numbers.
If you do that you'll need to consider physical size when rendering with something physically based (either scale back up or fanny around with render settings)

It is possible to tweak the unit precision in max to manage bigger or smaller scenes but keeping everybody in synch sounded like a ballache to me so didn't investigate.
