Sheik - Ocarina of Time - Redesign

So while I was trying to design the second outfit for my Celtic Redesign of Link, nothing was really grabbing me so I took a step back and ended up at Sheik! However this version she isn't manish (or a man depending how you look at it), she is a tough badass woman. I'm trying to stay away from the over sexualized models I've been seeing of women with perfect hourglass bombshell proportions with, lets face it, useless armor and protection. I'm going for a more built version and staying away from the giant wedgie tight pants. Sound off!!

Small update, enlarged head a bit added some detail in to match the level of detail done with my previous model. Also gave her a dagger and throwing needles.

@dand3d - Yea you're right, the initial idea is for people to think it was a male. But I just felt like taking a different spin on it. The way I thought of it was that it's already been discovered she's Zelda but she wants to continue to battle sans dress :P.

@HomeGrownHeroz - The patterns were done using Standard brush with an alpha and the DragRect stroke. I have a library of a bunch of celtic designs and I just found some that I like and tweak or re-create them in a way that I need them to be. For the boots specifically I would mask out the exact area where I want the design to be and then use the DragRect to get it on. The trickiest thing was just matching them up if I had to do the DragRect on different angles. It's quite simple once you have the design you are looking for

Wow man, looks great so far! Though I think you could get away with lightening up the color palette on her a bit and brightening some of the colors. The combination of low value/contrast and desaturated colors leads to it being a bit muddy. Try to avoid pure black and use a color instead. Can't wait to see more of this.

@Chris - Thanks man! Yea I can agree with you getting right of some of the super darks. This was my first pass and just base colors so I can definitely lighten up some of the areas and rid of the pure blacks that are popping up.

Another quick update. I tweaked the colors and added some variants. Play to keep it all hand painted so I'm trying different techniques. Some work some don't but it's a learning experience. Also tweaked the lighting into something that would be closer to the final render and match the Link Redesign I did previously.

digging the textures!
Nitpicking: In the model there's this concavity between the front and inner thigh muscles. To me it looks just a tiny bit strange. maybe BULGE THE CROTCH! or the inner thigh.

Might help if you just brighten the texture in that area.

Here's an update. Got some clean up to do and break up some of the perfections. Still have the spec and gloss maps to do.

Thanks LRoy! I appreciate the suggestion but I don't think I will be adding any armor. It would stray too far away from the design of Sheik plus it's too far in the project to add armor if I was going to. If anything I would just bring out the should cloth and leather more. Thanks though!!

I didn't mean add armor, I meant that if that turnaround was just a black silhouette rotating it would look like a naked female with a poncho on haha. I think just pulling out the edges of the existing armor would be fine, but not sure how lowpoly this is.

Ah yes, sorry I misread that. Hmm I'll test some things out with the shoulders but the leather on the legs and arms won't change as Sheik does have a very slim silhouette other than her shoulders and the big anime hair, this doesn't diverge too much from it.

Looking good! I think AO overall is too strong in many detailed areas causing them to become very noisy, perhaps tone down and color it so that there is less black lines all over the place.

Looking good. The pose is still rather stiff though. I want her to do something with her left arm as right now it's sorta just hanging there unnaturally. Perhaps have her reaching for the knife at her back?
She's standing straight up now, stiff as a board, which I feel doesn't really suit her. She should be more loose and nimble, or perhaps in an action pose of some sort.

@Fingus : Yea I agree it's a bit stiff. I'm still playing around with different poses, I have a plethora of the official art as well as screens from the games I'm looking at. Your first image is one of the main poses I want to try but only thing is that is covers up a lot of the model (The second image even more) that's why I want to have at least one of her standing so you can see the model in full.
I've been working on some variation of the first image while still trying to have the model shown. Thanks though

Looks awesome. I don't know why but the first thing I noticed was the colour of her eyes, I don't want to sound like a nitpiky fanboy or anything but they should be red. Everthing else looks great though
