VG Remix - Dawn of War 40K : Dark Crusade

So this competition really got me thinking about what games really stick out to me from the crowd. My decision ultimately came down to Dawn of War 40K, in particular the Dark Crusade expansion which added the Necron race. The reasoning behind the decision is that it was one of the first games my friends and I played together and being a complete noob at RTS back then, I usually played the IMBA Necrons, lol.

Moving on, my scene will be a small diorama including the Necron Lord, Monolith and some undecided extras in a handpainted style.

    Started on the Necron Lord today. Fixed up the shape issues with the Monolith and started to UV it.

    NecronLord - 495, Spear - 104.

    I think I'm going to have the Necron Lord spearing an enemy. Any suggestions? Probably will end up being an Orc unit.

    Finished the texture for the Monolith. Next up is the deciding on how i want to layout the scene and then to texture the characters.

    Nice start on those textures. One thing you might want to try is adding a some more highlights on some of the metal panel work, they seem a bit flat atm. Also the monolith feels a bit tall?

    Finalizing the Ork texture, liking the way the noise is coming up on this texture.

    @deadpixi - yeh, I had a closer look and the gem and the structure surrounding the gem is to large, thnx.

    Almost done with my scene. May throw some rocks in to break up the darker surface. Had some issues with the opacity on the Ork (hence the white around the hands). Will probably just texture the whole mesh and not worry about alphas on him.

    Things left to do:

    Rock
    Pose and tweak texture on necron lord
    Fix Ork Alphas
    Add more Slugga Boyz at base of the monolith attacking it with axes. :)

    And then I should be done, yay.

    edit - Just realised the alphas are broken on the necron lord aswell :( Will have to look further into it. Hopefully before the deadline, lol

    Fixed the transparency issue. Turns out you not only have to have a separate material for the transparent piece of the mesh, but also need it to be a different material type (so lambert and phong in this case).

    Almost ready to submit, just want to tweak with some stuff first.
