That is truly sad to me. My biggest inspiration in art and getting into games is the old lucasArts adventure games. Seeing that logo fills me with nostalgia. Hope everyone lands on their feet.
I felt a great disturbance in the Force... as if millions of gamers suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.
I'll never get another X-Wing game now.
who says you wont? If anything, you'll probably get a quality game now since Disney is only closing LucasArts as a developer, but still plans on licensing out it's properties to other studios.
I suppose one possible reasons for the shutdown (that we can think of) is that LucasArts hasn't had a blockbuster recently? Not sure if that's necessarily the case, though.
1313 definitely looked like it could have taken off.
well, when you're a developer that hasn't really produced anything great and based in one of the most expensive cities in the united states... You can bet that Disney wants to shut you down. Smart business move. All Disney needs is the ips.
End of an era and a truly terrible tragedy. Especially for 1313 and First Assault. BATTLEFRONT is never going to happen ;(
Good luck to everyone.
On that note, allow me to offer some hope. Ready at Dawn is hiring.
damn, that's a tough one. so much talent over there... I'm sure those people will land on their feet, mostly, but still, it's a big blow to the developer community to see a studio like this blow out the candle.
That's all Disney is, a collection of IP's. They never create anything, they just buy everyone else out and exploit the public domain. They are the very definition of rent-seekers.
I love the way they make these decisions. "...Minimizing the companies risks."
Do they think suddenly someone else is going to take the risk? Do they somehow think they can minimize risk? Are they going to homogenize things and have a smaller development base and then somehow they think thats minimizing risk?
How are these people so retarded how do they get to run companies.
That sucks. I knew a few folks that worked there over the years and the stories they would tell about the (mis)management of some of the games were incredible. But George allowed it to happen since he printed his own money and made revenue elsewhere. LucasArts could fail all it wanted, start projects and randomly cancel things, as long as ILM and LucasFilm made money. Now, Disney has shareholders to appease so it is no surprise that they went down. Most people that I knew bolted once Disney took over.
I hope everyone lands on their feet, even the folks from LucasFilm and Clone Wars.
Sad news people, for real Disney has a lot and I agree they should be making more studios or a huge studio with studios working on various games. I couldn't imagine them just obtaining things and not using them at all, come on w.t.f. at least let other people make games from these I.P's and you can have a % ... you'll still be winning instead of winning and not profiting.

but... that's what they said they were going to do...
As I've heard from many people who have worked for disney, there is no way that the people making the big decisions can climb the ladder that high in one lifetime while remaining a decent human being.
They don't care how many lives they've displaced, or how many countless hours of hard work and dreams they've flushed down the crapper. It's just business to them, people and dreams are assets and liabilities.
Good luck to those affected, I know PC is a great place to find work and land on your feet again.

This doesn't surprise me at all.

anyone that is a fan of the ips should be super happy. Now there will be a greater chance that games like the old click and point games may be made.
Good luck to everyone.

if anything, they should be opening more studios with the money they have piled up.
No. All that extra money needs to be going into the theme parks. Like why is there still no monorail to Hollywood Studios or Animal Kingdom?
Sniff.
Best of luck all.

Why have expensive satellite studios when you can bring development in house?
From what everyone says, 1313 was already shelved. *shrugs*
Terrible news - i grew up with these games
