Maya - Frame selected in all viewports at once ?

Is it possible to Frame selected in all viewports instead of one at a time ? Also can you set a toggle so that 1 hotkey cycles through the three smooth mesh preview options. Any quick way of turning descrete scale on and off ?

Help on any would be great thanks.

1. i dont know of any way to frame all view-ports at once.

2. give me a little time and i can script you something that does exactly this, for now you could use the 4 and 5 buttons.

3. hold r and lmb to get a markeing menus of the scales tools options, the same works with w + lmb and e + lmb for the translate and rotates tools too.

What silentbrains said. Shift+F frames your mesh in all 4 panes/panels (or however many you have).

Thanks Jeff,silentbrains,Kot_Leopold and passerby for the replys. Good tip with the marking menu and yeah shift f works in 2011 too handy. If you were scripting something it might be better to toggle between smooth 1 and 3 and skip 2 ? Anyway good to know its possible. Thanks again to you all

ya since you seem new you should also play with the shift+rmb menu, and the control+rmb menus while modeling.

Yeah the earlier you work marking menus into your workflow the faster you will be. I'm not the greatest artist but I can model pretty damn fast lol

Thanks for the advice guys I will give it a try I have tended to use custom shelves and the Ninja Speed Box so far.

it prolly has a lot to do with how people use the program too, since I almost never use quad viewports I have never needed to look for a way to frame all.

Haha never knew of shift f. Though if you were to script it, just gather all the viewports and run a for loop through them framing in each one

ya maya is quite complex i remeber years ago when i figured out you could select and type values into multiple channle box fields at once.

I learned ctrl+b (to toggle bg color) or something like that after using Maya for 5 years. Very humbling. But yeah you just get in your workflow. I've used Phoshop since 1993 and I'm sure 70% of the things you can do in it I have no idea the shortcuts.

Yeah maya is deep your never going to know it all. I am aiming to try to know what I need to get better and faster at modeling in maya.
