hello ! my name is traumwelt. I'm a french artist playing with blender... Yes i know blender is not as pro as other software, but he's my weapon of choice in the battle against the polygons because he's totally free... And yet powerfull believe me ^^

So let's hush the blabla and show some pictures right ?

Here is my latest creation, i' m actually working on a high res version of a character i have in mind.
i'm still learning how to get a good workflow and tried to bake the texture but it was a bit messy... hopefully it 'll come next ^^

hello it's me again, i've decided not to use normal maps for my character ( i don't like it that much in fact. I also understood i couldn't go anywher without a concept sketch ; so here it is :

it's roughly done but i like the feeling of it and so i went back in my favourite program, and did that :

God, hand-made textures are hard to do, but you know that don't you ?
It's still a wip by the way ^^

Jed-8 has been through some major changes he's not that low as i intended to...i'm really happy from the result now let's se if he can pass through the dificult test of rigging and skining properly.
All made in blender and photoshop.
no texture for the moment cause i'm a bit tired...

anyway cg cookie is organizing a contest for blender adepts, in wich you have to make a scarecrow, so i came up with this :

and here is a shot of her head... still not really happy with the texture work but i guess it's the best i can do... For now ! lol

Traum, I think you could have made your own blog, if you'll document every Blender move you make...

I may be more of a freelance anime artist, but I have a tip for you: Your Jed-8 is better as simplistic as Samurai Jack, color and design-wise, no need to elaborate too much detail through normal maps.

and i have abandoned the idea of using normal maps. I need now to add some textures.

My advice is that you look into some character and texturing tutorials. The stuff that you posted here is very strange and confusing.
You seem to be talented tho going by the 2D stuff on your portfolio so it's only a question of learning the tools and workflows.

thanks ^^ do you have any usefull links ? Cause i went through lots of tutorials... There's a thing i don't get anyway, is strangeness and confusing a bad thing ? i'm searching also for my own style anyway... I mean, the scarecrow might be somewhat special but my cartoony cyborg ? i don't see what's wrong with it... Bha every tastes are in the nature. so thanks for stopping by

Ah I missed the scarecrow part - didn't mean to sound harsh either, but why not look at some reference for scarecrows, it's one of those things where viewers are very used to a certain look and anything that falls outside of the look is very hard to recognize.

I'd start off small and forget the rigging and animating, that way you can focus on the modeling and texturing first.

i see, diference is bad... lol... I have spent a whole night watchinng references and what i wanted to do is avoid what other people do... But it seems i'm on the wrong so i'll be thinking about that... Thanks for your concern...

I think having a unique style is great, but IMO you should get the basics down first. On the job you'll be working on somebody else's style as well
