Maya subdiv problem

Hello all,

Just moved from max to maya and i don't know why the hell my object is smoothing (subdiv pressing the 3 keyboard button) that way.

Thanks in advance for any kind of help ... I check creases, and hard/soft edge ...

My guess is that either you've got double faces where the smoothing error occurs or there are unmerged vertices?

No everything is ok ... If i export my object to max and turbosmooth it that's ok too ... This problem is maya relative. There's something i don't know and need to ...

did u use bridge on those edges. if you did thats your problem rite there. use append polygon to fix.

Yes i did use "Bridge" ... "Appending" those polys fixed the problem but what's the difference bettwen "append" and "bridge" inside maya ?

Why do "Bridge is not smoothable correctly pressing the "3" button ?

Basically bridge in maya is a little silly and you have to not select the edges at either end of what youre trying to bridge or else it wont merge them together. If that doesnt make sense, i tried making this picture to explain it:

Alternatively, if you did use bridge, select and split the offending verts. Then select the result and merge back together to fix it.

Whenever your geo. isn't smoothing properly it's usually one of these things:

Unmerged verts
floating verts
double faces
hole in geo.
reversed normals on adjacent face(s)
hidden face(s) inside geo. (not hollow)

Hope that help with future trouble shooting.
