dont know if this question is apropiate here but is something that has been annoying me too much

so as title say 3ds max sometimes go too slow, like for example I enable a map like a specular map and them my pc go processing and even the pc freezes for some time and goes back to normal

but I am not exactly making some kind of uber model or something like, infact just a plain model less than 4000 polys and textures and normal maps a 1024 so that cant be

I remenber in softimage xsi there is a buttom that says "freeze" or something like it
that I have been told that is good to use cuz it erase some kind of unncesary data on the selected object and the programs runs more fluid, but I dont know if the "freeze" option that appears when right cliking in 3ds max is the same cuz it seems to literally freeze my objects and acquire some white color

I know in xsi the erased data is like the "history" of the object or something like that,so do there is a equivalent of that in 3ds max?

or maybe is just something else in my pc since is not unusual for it to have this "attacks" but lately its been exceeding and I was just aplying simple maps

or maybe I have to restart 3ds max?

well anyway any help is usefull

It can sometimes take a few seconds to update a texture if you're using hardware thing in the material (checker box is blue, forget the correct term for it), but the logical first question is, what are your pc specs?

    my pc is

amd athlom 4600 dal core 2.40 ghz

    3 gb ram

    nvidia gforce 8300 gs

I know is not powerfull but considering that sometimes some graphics heavy games like masseffect runs smooter I dont think the specs are a problem when making a 4000 poly model
